Erwin is a quiet, quaint little town tucked into a valley carved from the Smokey Mountains. Nolichucky RiverStill an active railroad center, the sound of distant train whistles is a lullaby as you drift off to sleep near an open window. The lovely Nolichucky River winds through our valley creating a rafting opportunity for water lovers. We will happily make reservations for a day of rafting with Cherokee Adventures for you. Several scenes from the movie The Last of the Mohicans were filmed on the river since little of modern man is evident along its banks. Trout, catfish and small mouth bass live in its water to the delight of Tennessee sportsmen. An especially breathtaking view of the river can be seen from one of the peaks along the Appalachian Trail. Erwin seasonally hosts hikers from the AT which runs right through town. Our guestbook holds notes from many north and south bounders who have rested here in previous years. The Cherokee National Forest creates a stunning backdrop for the town. It also provides hiking and picnic options including a mountain top which the locals call The Beauty Spot. On a clear day it is said you can see three states in the distance.
Blue Ridge Pottery was born in Erwin. Our Inn is located on Ohio Avenue, which was home Beautiful Blue Ridge Potteryto most of the potters who created this interesting and highly collectible china. The Apple Festival, which is held here the first weekend of October, boasts one of the largest Blue Ridge Pottery shows in the country. Both are within walking distance of our back door. Local potters still create some wonderful works from their studios in town. You will find examples of their work in your rooms and baths. Southern Living Magazine described Erwin and our festival in the August 2002 issue: "friendliness and charm as warm and comforting as an apple pie."

The Great Smokey MountainsIf you are a NASCAR fan, Clayton’s Dogwood Inn is just 35 minutes from Bristol Motor Speedway. Many of our guests come back year after year to enjoy the relaxation and quiet of Erwin as a pleasant contrast to the noise and excitement of the track. Reservations are a must.

Just a 45 minute trip over the mountain to Asheville, NC provides access to the Blue Ridge Parkway and all points North or South. We are happy to help plan wonderful day trips from here encompassing the best that Tennessee and North Carolina have to offer.
